5 Months In — The Numbers Are Getting Smaller, So Am I

Five months in, I was down 77 pounds and weighing 332. The weekly losses were getting smaller, but so was I — and a visit to my cardiologist gave me an even bigger reason to celebrate.

The big weekly drops I saw earlier in this journey were starting to slow down.

Instead of seeing huge numbers disappear from the scale, I was settling into a pretty consistent 2 or 3 pounds per week.

And honestly, I think that’s a good thing.

I’m not trying to lose as much weight as possible as fast as possible. I’m trying to get healthier.

My body has changed a lot in five months, and sometimes I think it needs a little time to catch up with everything that’s happening.

The scale may move quickly one week and barely move the next. But I’m learning that doesn’t necessarily mean progress has stopped.

Because while the numbers on the scale might be getting smaller…

So am I.

Apparently I Need New Clothes

My clothes are getting too big.

Not just a shirt here or a pair of pants there. I’m reaching the point where clothes that used to fit simply don’t anymore.

That’s been another reminder that the scale doesn’t tell the entire story.

I may not be seeing those huge losses every week anymore, but my body is still changing.

And I’m definitely noticing it.

A Pretty Great Cardiologist Visit

This month also brought one of the best milestones of the journey so far.

I had a checkup with my cardiologist.

After everything I’ve been through with my heart, these appointments obviously mean a lot to me. This time, I got some really encouraging news.

My cardiologist took me off some of my medications because I no longer needed them.

That’s a different kind of progress.

Losing weight is great. Wearing smaller clothes is great. Watching the number on the scale move is great.

But improving my health enough that my doctor could make changes like that?

That’s why I’m doing this.

77 Pounds Down

Five months ago, I was 409 pounds.

Today I’m 332.

You can see how those numbers have changed month by month on my progress page.

The weight isn’t coming off quite as dramatically as it did at the beginning, but it’s still coming off consistently.

I’m still going to the gym. I’m moving more. My clothes don’t fit anymore. I have more stamina.

And now I’ve had a cardiologist tell me that I don’t need some of the medications I needed before.

77 pounds down — and this journey is becoming about a whole lot more than losing weight.

A month later, that became even more obvious when I realized just how much my stamina had changed.
