Getting Back in the Gym - Showing up, Doing the Work
My 16-year-old nephew wanted to get into the weight room during his offseason, and I needed to get back in the gym too. So we joined Planet Fitness together — and this time I was determined to stay consistent.
Yesterday, I started back at Planet Fitness.
My 16-year-old nephew wanted to get into the weight room during his offseason from school sports, and I had already been thinking that I needed to get myself back into the gym.
So we decided to do it together.
I’d been a member of gyms and YMCAs before. Starting wasn’t really the problem.
Staying consistent was.
This time, I want it to be different.
I was already working on losing weight and getting healthier, and I know I need movement and strength to become part of the process too.
Having my nephew there gives me another reason to actually show up.
I'm not going into this expecting to suddenly become a gym guy overnight. I just want us to keep going.
Show up.
Do the work.
Come back again.
And somehow, that’s exactly what we are hoping to see happening.
What began as my nephew wanting to get into the weight room is becoming an important part of my journey too.
A few months later, I would realize just how much had changed when those first difficult ten minutes on the treadmill weren't so difficult anymore.
